A brown/yellow solid, although when freshly precipitated from aqueous solution, its colour is deep orange. Also known as vanadium(V) oxide or vanadia. Because of its high oxidation state, is both an amphoteric oxide and an oxidizing agent, used as a precursor to alloys of vanadium and as an industrial catalyst.
